A cow and a buffalo showing the paradox principle of sacrifice

I had come across this story a couple years back, but it wasn’t until this morning that it really hit home for me.

I’m sure many of you have heard it — the analogy of the buffalo and the cow.

Buffalo and cow, like most animals, have a keen sense for the weather and their surroundings, meaning they are on guard against everything, including storms.

That said, the buffalo’s response to the coming of a storm is much, much different to that of the cow.

The Cow

The cow, seeing the storm, begins to run away from it. Inevitably the storm catches up with them, they continue to run, now with the storm.

They are cold, shaken, exhausted, and defeated trying to escape the seemingly inescapable.

Understand, that as cows stuck in that storm they can see no further than that moment.

They accept their fate and sit in their own self-induced rainy day for as long as it lasts.

The Buffalo

Buffalo, on the other hand, sense the storm coming — and they run head on, directly into the storm.
